Besides breathtaking mountain vistas in all directions, perhaps Wolf Laurel’s most outstanding amenity is its on-site ski resort. While the golf course, fitness club, proximity to the Appalachian Trail, and spectacular indoor swimming pool with water slide and long-range views are duly impressive, the ski slopes represent something most private communities in Western North Carolina can’t offer. Wolf Laurel’s high altitude means it’s one of the few places in Southern Appalachia that experiences a kind of periodic microclimate weather event called Northwest Flow Snowfall…and if there isn’t snow, they’ll make some!
Wolf Laurel was founded in 1965, so there are plenty of beautiful older homes (some remarkably affordable); but new construction continues in more recent sections, like The Preserve, where gorgeous cottage and cabin style homes range from around $400,000 to $750,000. With downtown Mars Hill no more than 25 minutes away, residents here don’t have to sacrifice convenience for their cozy mountain retreat!
